Expert on art fraud, award-winning author, and former FBI agent Robert Wittman chronicles the dramatic recoveries of documents of historical importance and books such as an original copy of the Bill of Rights, a stolen first edition of Darwin’s groundbreaking The Origin of Species, and even a first-folio edition of William Shakespeare’s plays.

He draws from his bestselling book The Devil’s Diary: Alfred Rosenberg and the Stolen Secrets of the Third Reich to recount his 2013 recovery of the long-lost private diary of the Nazi Party’s chief ideologue, who laid the philosophical foundations for the Holocaust. Rosenberg’s diary had been lost for more than 60 years and its long-hidden contents offer first-person insights into the Nazi rise to power, the genesis of the Final Solution, and Germany’s brutal occupation of the Soviet Union.

Known as the FBI's “Real Indiana Jones,” Wittman has recovered more than $300 million in lost and stolen artwork and cultural property in his career. He is the author of two books describing the cases he has worked on and his experiences in the field.
