Breakfast in the Loggia by John Singer Sargent (Freer Gallery of Art)

NOTE: Registration will close for this program at 3 p.m. ET on Friday, February 3, 2022.

John Singer Sargent was the late-19th-century’s most sought-after portrait painter. But his personal love was landscape and figurative work. Gain insight into Sargent’s philosophy, color palette, and materials—as well as an overview of his personal and professional life—through lectures, demonstrations, and an instructor-led museum tour and talk. Special attention is given to the importance of simplification, value, halftones, and edges. Students create their own Sargent-inspired paintings that reflect his sense of light, value, and color. Basic painting and drawing experience are required.  Please note this class is in oils only.
