In just the past twenty years, we have learned more about dinosaurs than we did in the previous two centuries, from finding new understanding in what colors dinosaurs actually were to looking at what their evolution may have been like on volcanic islands where there is no fossil record. Paleontologist David Hone discusses the extraordinary advances that are beginning to solve many of the mysteries surrounding these marvelous prehistoric creatures and giving scientists new questions to consider.

Covering dinosaurs’ ways of communicating to their mating habits, the color of their skin to migration patterns and extinction, Hone surveys the history of what paleontologists thought in the past as well as the new insights we are gleaning from recent fossil finds, the latest technologies, and the gaps in our knowledge that still remain.

Hone’s book How Fast Did T. rex Run?: Unsolved Questions from the Frontiers of Dinosaur Science (Princeton University Press) is available for purchase.
