Learn the strategies Rembrandt, Turner, and Cézanne used to harness light in their images. By looking deep into their work, participants will investigate how these masters manipulated light to unify, intensify, and give volume to their images. In-class exercises will revolve around using graphite to draw studies of masterworks with a focus on creating a parallel luminous effect, not an exact replica. A beginning drawing class or equivalent experience is strongly recommended, but not required for this course.
