"The Caress", by Mary Cassatt (Smithsonian American Art Museum)

NOTE: Registration will close for this program at 3 p.m. ET on Friday, February 4, 2022.

Artists such as Mary Cassatt, Gary Melcher, Auguste Renoir, and Berthe Morisot are known for their masterful paintings that captured the emotional bonds between mothers and children. After some class discussion, students put into practice some of these artists’ oil painting techniques, completing studies using provided reference images. Afterward, students may create their own mother-child-themed painting of a family member or friend.

Note: In-person programs are not recorded.
