George Will (Photo: Gage Skidmore)

For almost half a century, Pulitzer Prize-winning author and columnist George F. Will has provoked, amused, illuminated, and infuriated readers with no-holds-barred commentary on issues as far ranging as the state of the American judiciary to baseball.

Now, drawing on his new book American Happiness and Discontents: The Unruly Torrent, 2008-2020, he examines a remarkably unsettling 13 years in our nation’s history. Leavened by Will’s signature wit, this collection brings clarity to a time marked by cultural change and unrest. He casts a careful eye on what defines the American experience as he explores an array of topics including drug policy and the criminal justice system; the First Amendment; meritocracy and education; Frank Sinatra, Bob Dylan, and The Beach Boys; and, yes, the morality of enjoying football.

He will be interviewed by Steven V. Roberts, Shapiro Professor of Media and Public Affairs at George Washington University.

American Happiness and Discontents (Hachette Books) is available for sale.
