Impressionist artists favored working in the vibrant medium of pastel because of its luminosity and color-layering effects. Working in the U.S. National Arboretum, capture the colors of nature and the interaction of light and shadows. Students use Cezanne’s color-blocking style to produce the brilliant and subtle effects achieved with pastel.
The workshop includes demonstrations and lectures on color theory, color mixing, optical mixing, and composition. View works by Cezanne for inspiration and creative ideas. Students may work in chalk, oil pastel, or gouache, and should have basic drawing skills.
