Join Sara Lukinson, filmmaker and writer for the Kennedy Center Honors for 38 years, to talk about the lives of performing arts legends and enjoy clips of their performances. Explore what made them so moving, memorable, and exciting. These artists both reflected their times and changed them. And we loved them for it. Lukinson, a multiple Emmy Award winner, created more than 200 short biographical films for the Kennedy Center Honors. She teaches at NYU and the 92nd Street Y. Session Information Film Heroes Then and Now: The Noble, the Intense, the Complex, and the Everyman Gregory Peck, Kirk Douglas, Robert DeNiro, and Tom Hanks are four of the film stars who received the Kennedy Center Honors. Each actor was a larger-than-life embodiment of characteristics of the American hero of their time. Peck projected integrity, Douglas intensity, DeNiro complexity, and Hanks an everyman at the crossroads. As we changed, so did what we came to define as a hero.
