Unglazed porcelains have a natural look and earthy texture that make them a perfect choice to mimic traditional mosaics in exterior projects with a contemporary flair. The material’s high-density clay body is easy to cut with inexpensive tile nippers.

This 8-session course begins with a comprehensive overview of how to create exterior mosaics, an exploration of harmonious mosaic design, and instruction in fabrication techniques. Students create cartoons as a basis for their projects, using instructor-provided designs from Roman and Byzantine periods or their own original design, then complete and grout their pieces, which are suitable for exterior display. All skill levels are welcomed.

A supply fee of $80 payable to the instructor includes exterior-rated substrate, hanging devices, adhesives, tool loan, and ample supply of ceramic materials to create a one-square-foot mosaic.
