Do you sing doo-wop in the shower, croon along with the Beatles when you're stuck in traffic, or have a knockout kitchen version of your favorite Motown classic? It's time to find a bigger stage! If you love rock and roll, and want to sing some of the greatest hits of all time, you're ready to join the Boomers Rock ’n’ Roll Chorus, a program geared for people ages 55 and above who love to sing—and there’s no experience required.
Ernest Johnson leads the ensemble in arrangements of the hits we know and love. Sessions may include favorites from Elvis Presley, the Beatles, the Beach Boys, Aretha Franklin, ABBA, and Simon and Garfunkel, selected by the conductor. The experience is designed to entertain, challenge, and educate singers of all abilities and skill levels. Smithsonian music collections are highlighted during the series.
Rehearsals culminates in a free public performance. If you can’t get the garage band back together, this is the next best thing!
Johnson is a choral conductor and music educator who has worked with singers and musicians of all ages for more than 40 years. He is he director of adult choirs at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alexandria, an adjunct professor at George Mason University, and active as a guest conductor, teacher, and clinician throughout the area.
