Artists and scribes have been illuminating manuscripts with beautiful and fun illustrations for centuries. Helping people to understand the story, poem, or verse by creating fascinating additions turned the writings into exquisite pieces of art. Students learn about the history of illuminated manuscript art as they focus on creating their own tiny masterpiece. They get inspiration from examples of progressive lettering styles; symbolism; and various animals, insects, plants, and people they might use in their work to suggest hidden meaning.
Discussions of tools and materials used in the past and today show how the execution of this time-honored art form has evolved over time. A supply fee of $10 is payable to the instructor.
