As scientists continue to solve medical mysteries and unlock the secrets of our DNA, real-life science stories provide inspiration for Hollywood storylines. Scientific breakthroughs in genomics have been featured prominently in popular television shows and movies such as CSI, Jurassic Park, and Gattaca, just to name a few.

Wayne Grody, a technical advisor to Hollywood, ensures that popular media deliver realistic messages about science to its audience.

In this entertaining program, Dr. Grody explores the difference between fact and Hollywood fiction. Hear about his experience advising on memorable scenes in films and TV programs, as well as the “real” science behind the make-believe.

Grody has been a film critic for MD Magazine, and a writer and technical advisor for a number of feature films, television movies, and series including Life Goes On, Chicago Hope, CSI, Medium, both Nutty Professor movies, and Heroes.

He is a professor in the departments of pathology and laboratory medicine, pediatrics, and human genetics at the University of California, Los Angeles, School of Medicine, where he serves as director of the Clinical Genomics Center and attending physician in the Division of Medical Genetics.
