The annual Breakfast at the Zoo is a members-only opportunity to enjoy the sights and sounds of the National Zoo before it opens to the public. This year, your family can say hello to some of the newest residents, 11 Asian small-clawed otters. They are the smallest of the world’s 13 otter species, and live in large family groups. See if you can tell who’s related to whom when you visit them at Asia Trail.

On Lion and Tiger Hill, participants enjoy a breakfast buffet and live music from the Sweater Set, a folk duo. Kids can head to the activity table, to get their faces painted, and enjoy animal-themed games and crafts. Animal keepers will give informal talks, and offer participants a chance to see selected animals up close.

Please note: This special event is open only to Smithsonian Associates Members, Smithsonian staff, and their guests. Registration closes at noon on Thursday, September 27. There will be no tickets available at the event. Children age 4 and under admitted free.
