Tonight, immerse yourself in the exhibition Bright Beneath: The Luminous Art of Shih Chieh Huang and the subject of bioluminescence at the Natural History Museum.
Join Natural History Museum curator of fishes Lynne Parenti and artist Shih Chieh Huang to explore the flashes of color and fluid beauty found living in the depths of the ocean. Chat with the artist about his work, experience the phenomenon of bioluminescence through demonstrations, touch specimens of deep-sea dwellers from the Natural History Museum's collection, and participate in the on-site creation and installament of an "Organic Concept," made famous by Huang.
Sip a specialty cocktail and nibble on themed hors d'oeuvres as you explore a place where art and science meet.

Featured Exhibition:The Bright Beneath: The Luminous Art of Shih Chieh Huang
The artwork of Shih Chieh Huang explores the unusual evolutionary adaptations undertaken by the mysterious, deep ocean creatures residing in conditions inhospitable for humans. During Huang’s time as a Smithsonian artist research fellow, he explored the bioluminescent marine organisms that inspired this art installation. His creations, with their lights, computer parts, and plastic-tube appendages, evoke a sense of wonder and curiosity as they “float” in the darkness of the gallery.
The Sant Ocean Hall is located on the first floor of the National Museum of Natural History. The entrance is off of Constitution Ave., N,W. (Metro: Federal Triangle - Blue/Orange ).
