Please Note: Due to weather, this class has an updated end date (originally March 3, 2026).
Learning how to paint a portrait can be intimidating. Take away the stress by starting with a simple monochromatic portrait after studying well-known sculptures and practicing translating 3D objects onto a 2D surface. Elements of art—including line, shape, value, form, texture, space, and color—are discussed. Color mixing and proportions of the face are explained and demonstrated. You also learn how to select and use artist-grade pigments, professional papers, and brushes.
In the second portion of the class, paint a second portrait based on an image and color scheme you choose. With support from the instructor and applying what you have learned, you gain confidence in your ability to paint portraits.
