Be both stylish and sustainable with a brooch you create from upcycled materials. The project takes the form of a wearable diorama made with an aluminum can, beads, wire, and any small special object that can be placed inside. In creating their piece, students learn to: safely cut aluminum to construct a small box form using origami-like folding; create embellishments with embossing, beads, and other recycled materials such as paper or wrappers; mount or hang a small object; and attach a pin-back.
Previous jewelry making experience (such as completion of the Introduction to Beading course or a similar workshop) is recommended, as is excitement about experimenting with new techniques and unusual materials.
