The Romanian Front is one of the most often overlooked of the many battlefronts of the First World War, and yet when Romania entered the war in late August 1916, its appearance as a new enemy forced all four Central Powers to divert many of their best troops and thousands of tons of weapons and supplies from other fronts where they were desperately needed.

Historian and documentarian Indy Neidell explores how Romania helped shape and determine the course of the war over its final two years. With the German Empire stretched so thin by Romania in late 1916 that the Kaiser’s big worry was that Denmark would decide to join the war and march on Berlin with no German troops to spare to stop them, the combined might of the Central Powers nevertheless failed to overrun Romania and knock her out of the war. For most of two years, well over a million of the Central Powers’ soldiers were tied down in what was perhaps the Entente’s only bright spot, given Russia’s exit from the war, contributing greatly to the final exhaustion of the Central Powers in 1918.
