If you appreciate the beauty of book forms as three-dimensional art and love collage, this class is for you. The instructor introduces you to different ways to create simple handmade books, including drum leaf binding, accordion (concertina), and types that use pamphlet and other simple stitching. Learn to incorporate various types and weights of paper for the covers and internal pages. Add a personal touch of creativity by incorporating an assortment of collage and mixed-media materials, such as your own photos, found papers, and leftover gel prints.
Experiment with simple methods of making image transfers to enhance your creative vision. Keep these books as personal journals or travel sketch books or transform them into mementos and gifts with personal memorabilia. Some specialized materials are provided by the instructor.
