Originally part of the residence of the Medici dynasty, the Palatine Gallery encompasses the entire second floor of the Pitti Palace in Florence, Italy. Its collection includes the largest concentration of paintings by Raphael in the world, as well as works by Titian, Tintoretto, Caravaggio, and Rubens. The paintings in their lavish frames entirely cover the walls of the rooms. The layout of the works follows the typical style of private collections of the time, meaning they are not arranged in chronological order or schools of painting but instead reflect the taste of the former inhabitants.
Italian Renaissance art expert Rocky Ruggiero discusses the importance of this gallery and highlights some of its most impressive works.
