Note: This is an overnight in-person program for children and families.
Join fellow adventurers at one of the world's most visited museums for a night of fun! Wander through the Fossil Hall, where dinosaurs cast giant shadows. Learn about Earth's past and discover the ocean's aquatic wonders. Visit pollinators and walk softly past mysterious mammals. Participate in games and challenges, immerse yourself in hands-on crafts and even learn how to eat like a T-Rex while playing The Game of Survival.

We are looking forward to seeing you at tonight's Smithsonian Sleepover at the Natural History Museum. Please check your email as we just sent a very important message with updates regarding some unexpected road closures in the area of the museum due to the upcoming Grand Prix event.
The east bound lanes on Constitution Avenue at the 14th and 12th Street intersections are blocked. If you encounter these roadblocks please give the police officers that name of the person who made tonight's reservation and you should be allowed through. You may unload at the museum's entrance on Constitution Ave and 10th Street NW and then move your vehicle to where you are parking for the night. Please note you will not be allowed to park on Constitution Avenue due to the roadblocks.

Next Morning
- 7 a.m. Lights on and breakfast served
- 8 a.m. Family Store opens (receive 10% off your purchase with your wristband)
- 9 a.m. Depart from the museum
General Information
- This program is for children ages 8 to 14 years old, accompanied by their adult chaperones (21 or older).
- There must be at least one adult chaperone for every 5 children in any group that registers. No adults without children.
Registration
- Important Note: This sleepover opportunity includes Smithsonian Associates member pricing.
- Program registration will end at 12 p.m. (noon) ET on Friday, August 14, 2026. Registrations must be purchased in advance; no door sales.
- As part of the checkout process, you will be asked to provide adult and child names in your party and the age of each child; have an opportunity to purchase a Smithsonian Sleepovers t-shirt for you and your party ($20 per shirt); and sign a waiver/release form.
- For Military Families: A reduced rate is available for active-duty U.S. military personnel and their families. Please call 202-633-3030 to receive Military Promotion pricing.
