Materials for this program

By Bonnie Fitzgerald

Explore the meeting of traditional and nontraditional mosaic materials while learning design and composition theories. Working with a theme of the face, combine mosaic and assemblage.

This is an opportunity to use some of that stuff you simply have not been able to part with, including recycled materials of unexpected origin, nature’s bounty from the sea and shore, dish shards, glass, tile, rusty bits, and pebbles. Prerequisites: a vague familiarity with the parts of the face and a sense of humor.

Weekly classes are lecture, demonstration, and work-along. Class discussion covers using unconventional materials, appropriate adhesives, and substrates. Learn cutting tricks, review design principles, and find out how to create effective backgrounds to best support your primary subject. Time is dedicated to exploring ways to transform mundane objects into interesting mosaic elements.

Students provide all materials; see the instructor supply list for details.
