Dating to the 13th century and derived from the Arabic word migramah (fringe), macramé has both a storied history and some trendy associations such as the coconut plant hangers of the 1970s. Using the same knotting techniques, paired with much finer threads, micro-macramé allows for the creation of delicate yet durable jewelry of all types. Students learn several types of macramé knots and finishing techniques to create a pair of earrings, plus how to translate the earrings pattern into longer pieces like bracelets or necklaces. All levels are welcome.
