Learning how to paint a portrait can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be. Take away the angst by painting a monochromatic human form that does not move. Choose from a variety of images of gargoyles, grotesques, and caryatids to paint a portrait using a monochromatic color scheme. Discuss the elements of art, including line, shape, value, form, texture, space, and color as they apply to this project. Practice translating a 3-D object onto a 2-D surface.
