This intermediate-level oil painting class is for students who are new to drawing the human figure as well as those with previous experience. Students are provided with the opportunity to explore figure painting from a live model as they enhance technical and observational skills through exercises, demonstrations, and group discussions.
Participants revisit fundamentals of human anatomy and experiment with techniques and approaches. They develop their painting practice and cultivate their style with support and feedback from the instructor and classmates in moderated critique sessions designed to provide constructive suggestions. Special emphasis is placed on visual analysis and understanding the expressive role of basic visual elements—color, line, shape, and value—in creating potent painting. Basic drawing and oil painting experience is required.
