The nationally celebrated Moon Rabbit restaurant in Washington, D.C., features modern Vietnamese cuisine that evokes memory, honors history, references globally inspired techniques, and spotlights reinterpreted takes on regional Vietnamese dishes.
Chef Kevin Tien, a 2024 James Beard Award finalist, oversees a menu that features cutting-edge takes on classic Vietnamese dishes, with an homage to his mother’s and grandmother’s recipes. With an emphasis on local and global ingredients, the menu salutes the heritage of Vietnamese cuisine while looking forward to its future.
Tien’s menu, specially designed for Smithsonian Associates’ guests, celebrates the Lunar New Year, known as Tết Nguyên Ðán in Vietnam. Traditionally, it’s a time for Vietnamese families to reunite and honor their ancestors as well as pray for luck, prosperity, and health in the new year. Food is an important part of the celebrations, and many families will gather for a day-long feast where they look back on the past year. Many dishes symbolize the passing of hardship, as well as hope for the new year.
The ticket price includes a four-course dinner and non-alcoholic drinks. Wine, beer, and cocktails are not included but can be ordered separately.
