Digital drawing has become more accessible than ever. With just an iPad, Apple Pencil, and Procreate, any artist can create fully digital work. This three-hour workshop introduces students to the principles of digital art with a lecture explaining the tools and the practical details of file types, resolutions, color settings, and image exports. After the lecture, the instructor leads students through the creation of a piece of art in Procreate.
The demonstration covers:
- creating a file/canvas
- guides and grids
- layers
- brushes
- colors
- smudging
- erasing
- selecting, moving, and transforming
- adjustments and effects
- adding photos and text
- animating
Students are encouraged to attend with an iPad, Apple Pencil, and Procreate, ready to follow along, produce their own piece of art during the demonstration, and ask questions. Those with alternative digital drawing tools (other computers, tablets, or software) are welcome to attend and use their tools as a point of comparison with the iPad, Apple Pencil, and Procreate option.
Students who participate and produce work are encouraged to share their progress with the rest of the class.
Note: If you plan to purchase an iPad, Apple Pencil, or Procreate, please check their compatibility for which iPad model and Apple Pencil to buy. Apple Pencil Compatibility | Procreate Compatibility
