The quilted coat is a popular fashion statement that is a perfect fit for do-it-yourselfers. You may make your own quilted pieces or cut up an existing piece of patchwork to create a stunning, distinctive garment. Use a basic garment pattern that comes in several sizes and can be made in different lengths with a couple of variations. Each week the class goes step-by-step through construction and finishing. Expect to spend some time outside of class on your project. This intermediate class is best suited for students who have prior experience sewing or quilting.
Note: Repurposing is appropriate for a vintage quilt showing some wear. Consider the historical or sentimental value of the piece before cutting it up: Is it better for it to have another life as a garment or to be saved in the closet for posterity? It’s your call.
