Materials for this program

Reusing textiles is a practice familiar to many both today and historically. Inspired by 20th-century American textiles and beyond, transform your own cherished garments and other textiles into stunning quilts. Learn about design and sewing techniques for different types of fabric structure, including knits, and practice in class by making sections for your quilt. Gather materials you would like to use, like vintage T-shirts, thrift store finds, and domestic textiles such as lace doilies and placemats. With step-by-step guidance, create a unique quilt.

Classes 1 and 2: Learn about the scrap quilt, patterns and preparing to quilt, quilting history, and tips and tricks to get started.

Class 3: Dive into the T-shirt quilt, how to design for quilting, handling stretchy fabric, mending, and highlighting special garment details in your quilt.

Classes 4 and 5: Start with the foundation of piecing, from crazy to sane, drawing on tradition and shaping for your distinctive vision.
