The log cabin quilt, with blocks of simple strips built around a center, is a traditional style yet remains a modern favorite. Because the log cabin block is really a method of working rather than a fixed pattern, it is an excellent framework for exploring color, value contrast, and design options. Modern and historic examples of log cabin quilts, along with the instructor’s work, are shown. 

It is suitable for vintage textiles, new yardage, or scraps and can easily be scaled up or down to any size. Familiarity with basic quilt making and your sewing machine are helpful. Stitching may be done by hand or machine.
