Materials for this program

Lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experimentation introduce the medium of oil paint. Work from museum masterpieces, still-life arrangements, or your favorite photos to explore techniques that include color-mixing, scumbling, and glazing as you gain the technical background and experience needed to get started as a painter.

Guidelines for handling toxic chemicals and their waste products are stressed. Participants should have basic drawing skills for this class. The Observation and Perception: Unlocking the Skill of Drawing class is recommended as a good foundation for drawing skills.
