The Brusilov Offensive, which took place in what is now western Ukraine, was the Russian Empire’s preeminent feat of arms during WWI and among the most lethal battles in world history. From early June through September 1916, this major offensive against the armies of the Central Powers (Germany and Austria-Hungary) on the Eastern Front resulted in the greatest victory for the Triple Entente (Russia, France, and Britain).
