During the Spanish Civil War, a military revolt against the Republican government of Spain transformed into a bloody civil war, with many other countries joining what they saw as the struggle between democracy and fascism. The Battle of Guadalajara in March 1937, the last major victory of the Republican Army, provided a much-needed morale boost as they fended off an attempt by the Nationalists to take Madrid. Focusing on this battle and the leadership and weaponry strategies that affected its outcome, campers create their own dioramas and terrain boards, paint miniature soldiers, play war games, and use reference books and documentaries for background on the conflict.
