Calligraphy has its roots in many different regions around the world, including China, Japan, India, Tibet and Europe. In the Middle East and East Asia, where calligraphy has a long and revered tradition, it is considered a major art form equal to sculpture or painting. Campers discover the rich history of creating letterforms through visits to the Freer and Sackler collections. They try their hand at a number of styles both ancient and modern as they create objects adorned with their brushstrokes to be exhibited at the end of the week.
