Neostylis Lou Sneary “Bluebird” orchid

This entertaining and informative afternoon with an orchid expert delves into many aspects of the beloved flower and our endless fascination with it. Orchid history, origins, trivia, fun facts, and basic care instructions are among the topics covered. In a hands-on activity, learn to free a Neostylis orchid from the confines of its pot and mount it on a piece of cork bark to display at home. (Orchids and other materials are provided and yours to take home.) Participants may also bring in orchids from their own collections for a question-and-answer session with the instructor, during which light refreshments are served.

Instructor Barbara Schmidt is a member of the Orchid Society; Longwood Gardens; and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, where she teaches orchid classes. Her orchids have won a variety of awards, including first-place ribbons at the Philadelphia International Flower Show. She is the author of the 2016 book Orchid Care: For the Beginner.
