Kayakers view the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Memorial

PLEASE NOTE: This tour has a rescheduled date (originally Oct. 15, 2017).

This tour is also available on:

Experience some of Washington’s most distinctive landmarks from a different perspective—a kayak on the Potomac. Judy Lathrop, a certified interpretive guide and kayak instructor, weaves together urban, cultural, and natural history to create a unique portrait of the capital city, its people, and its most famous river.

Set off from Columbia Island Marina on a route that includes views of the Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monuments, the Watergate (site of the original river entrance to the city), the Pentagon, and the Georgetown waterfront. Glide under Memorial Bridge and Key Bridge for glimpses of what you’ve never seen from your car, and pick up plenty of fascinating new facts along the way. Did you know that a canal that crossed the Potomac once connected Alexandria and the District? A stop is made at Roosevelt Island.

This 4-hour tour is guided and includes an introductory kayaking lesson; all participants use tandem kayaks. A snack and bottled water are provided. Beginning-level kayakers are welcome; this tour requires moderate stamina.

Parking is available at Columbia Island Marina. Detailed information is emailed to all participants in advance.
