Drawings by instructor Paul Glenshaw
The National Cathedral offers wonderful opportunities and subjects for drawing: immense vaulted arches, intricate Gothic tracery, funerary sculptures, relief sculptures, altarpieces, flying buttresses, soaring towers, grotesque gargoyles, gardens, and always fascinating interplays of light and shadow.
This one-day workshop covers all these bases. Students draw both inside and outside the cathedral (weather permitting) under the guidance and direction of drawing instructor Paul Glenshaw. The day begins with a brief orientation tour of the cathedral followed by a morning drawing session, a lunch break featuring a box lunch (provided by the cathedral’s on-site café), then an afternoon session. Students will draw with simple, portable materials—pencil, charcoal, and paper. Sturdy, comfortable footwear and clothing strongly recommended. Small portable stools are permitted.
Recommended for intermediate and advanced students only.
The price of admission and box lunch are included.
