In this course combining lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experimentation, gain the technical background and experience you need to get started as a painter. Working from still-life arrangements, explore basic painting techniques, including color-mixing, scumbling, and glazing.

Beginning Acrylic Painting
6-Session Evening Program

This introductory-level class offers newcomers to painting a grounding in the basic techniques to get started in acrylics, as well as practical strategies to start seeing the world through the eyes of an artist. They create still lives, landscapes, and study and paint from masterworks in Smithsonian museums.

By viewing paintings at the National Gallery of Art and hands on-practice in the studio, discover the techniques that artists like Monet, Renoir, and Degas used to created their signature styles—and learn to apply them to your own art. (World Art History Certificate elective, 1/2 credit)
