Join fellow pop-music lovers in a choral program celebrating the legends of song. Do you sing Elvis hits in the shower, croon along with the Beatles when you're stuck in traffic, know every word of Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" or Billy Joel's "Piano Man", or have a knockout kitchen version of your favorite Motown classic? It's time to find a bigger stage!

If you love the music of the ’60s through the ’80s and want to sing some of the greatest hits from the top artists of that era, you're ready to join the Boomers Chorus, a program geared for people ages 55 and above who love to sing—and there’s no experience required.

Ernest Johnson leads the ensemble in arrangements of the hits you know and love. Songs may include favorites by Elvis Presley, the Beatles, Temptations, Supremes, Beach Boys, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, and others, selected by the conductor. (The final song list and musical arrangements are chosen to fit the specific vocal and musical abilities of the group.)

The experience is designed to entertain, challenge, and educate singers of all skill levels. Singers receive general instruction in vocal techniques that include exercises in healthy breath management for singing and improving your singing tone and range. Basic music-reading instruction is also provided during the sessions. Rehearsals culminate in a free public performance on Thursday, December 15. (Reservations required.)

Johnson is a choral conductor and music educator who has worked with singers and musicians of all ages for more than 40 years. He was the director of adult choirs at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alexandria, an adjunct professor at George Mason University, and active as a guest conductor, teacher, and clinician throughout the area.

This program is made possible through generous funding from E.A. Michelson Philanthropies.

9 sessions total (8 rehearsals plus performance; no class November 24)
