The jazz world's preeminent competition has changed its name from the Thelonious Monk to the Herbie Hancock Institute of Jazz Competition. What hasn’t changed is the caliber of talent reflected in the exciting young jazz guitarists vying for more than $150,000 in prizes and scholarships.

Presiding over this year’s semifinals round is an all-star panel of judges including jazz legends Pat Metheny, Lee Ritenour, John Scofield, Stanley Jordan, Russell Malone, and Chico Pinheiro.

The three finalists selected move on to compete for top honors at the Finals held the following evening at the Kennedy Center.
