Robert Frost

The woods are lovely, dark and deep,
But I have promises to keep,
And miles to go before I sleep,
And miles to go before I sleep.

More than 50 years after his death, Robert Frost remains one of the most beloved and critically respected poets of all time. Winner of four Pulitzer prizes, Frost was a groundbreaking artist and cultural icon, a rural sage who became America’s “national poet.” His poetry suggested how small encounters between individual and the natural world could often be construed as metaphors for the larger themes of the human condition.

President John F. Kennedy, at whose inauguration Frost delivered a poem, said of the poet, "He saw poetry as the means of saving power from itself. When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the areas of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of his existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.”

Join us as we follow this great American original down the road less traveled. Author Daniel Stashower explores Frost’s life and legacy, and actor Scott Sedar reads a selection of the poet’s most celebrated works.
