The great tragic losses of the Battle of the Alamo and Custer’s defeat at the Battle of the Little Bighorn became rallying cries for Americans in their quest for westward expansion. Inspired by the Americans who stood their ground against impossible odds, campers build dioramas and play strategic games. They use miniature soldiers, reference books, documentaries, and detailed models to learn about these events. They engage with the historical perspective of the Lakota and Northern Cheyenne victory at Little Bighorn through visits to American Indian Museum and the National Archives.
