In the first military action of the Cold War, soldiers from the northern Democratic People’s Republic of Korea invaded the pro-Western Republic of Korea to the south. This marked the beginning of the Korean War, in which the U.S. saw a symbol of the global struggle between east and west. Campers paint miniature soldiers, play strategic war games, and use reference books and documentaries to learn about this complex conflict. They visit the National Security Agency’s museum to explore the role cryptology played in this brief, yet destructive war, and construct their own dioramas and terrain board.
