African music helps connect people, strengthens the fabric of a community, and offers a mode of communication. Talking drums, signal drums, songs, and the sagas of griot historians each communicate different types of important information. Campers experience cultures from across the African continent through music, stories, drumming, dance, and art. Visits to African Art and the African-American Museums as well as participation in the Sounds of Africa workshop inspire campers. They make their own drum and thumb piano and practice patterns and rhythms in preparation for their final presentation for family and friends.
